LIFT Festival Needs Your Help
What better city to focus a special edition of Boat Magazine than the UK City of Culture 2013? For one week at the beginning of spring, Boat will be teaming up with LIFT to produce a free newspaper all about Derry~Londonderry. One city, one week, 32 pages.
The best way to get to know a place is through the people who live there. We want you to help us find out about your city through an object you own, an object that opens up a personal memory of the Derry you know.
On Tuesday 5th March we will ask you to meet an international artist, who is helping to produce the newspaper, with whom you will share your object and associated memories. The object should be small and the memory should be something that you would be happy to share with the readers of Boat. We would ask that we may look after your object overnight so that it can be photographed for the article.
The article will be similar to this one from Sarajevo (pages 46 to 53). The free newspaper will be distributed on Saturday 9th March in two ways: 5000 copies will be handed out free in the city centre and it will be available on the internet as a PDF download or through isuu.com.
Who we are… LIFT is one of Europe’s leading arts festivals with a 30 year history of creating ground breaking international performance in a London wide festival every two years. LIFT and Culture Company 2013 are co-commissioning Political Mother: Derry~Londonderry Uncut produced in partnership with Hofesh Shechter Company.
Boat Magazine is a travel magazine with a difference. They move a talented team of writers and photographers to a different city every issue and set up camp for a month – exploring the city and getting to know it as intimately as possible.
Global City – Local City is a Europe wide initiative, 15 artists from 11 countries have been drawing inspiration from European cities in order to create new artistic work. Inspired by the City of Culture programme, LIFT will be hosting these artists in a Derry~Londonderry cityLAB, through tours, workshops and film screenings, this cityLAB will provide an opportunity for some of Europe’s most exciting artists to get under the skin of the city. This project is funded by the EU culture programme.
As a thank you for your help with the article, we would like to offer you a pair of tickets to watch Hofesh Shechter Company’s Political Mother: Derry~Londonderry Uncut at The Venue 2013 on the 8th or 9th March presented by LIFT.
