On Tuesday, December 13th the BBC will be running a workshop on developing games and interactive content for the new big screen in Waterloo Place.

This is in advance of a call to commission games for the sites in Derry and Belfast, funded by DCAL. The official blurb is below but, in short, if you want to learn how to build games for the screen and be in with a shot of getting paid to build one, you NEED to be there.

“The BBC Big Screen team in conjunction with the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure are looking for interactive developers, to produce interactive applications for the BBC Big Screens in Belfast and Derry. In this session, we’ll introduce you to the concept of public space broadcasting, how it works plus how you can get involved.

With a presentation from a current developer, the Big Screen team will outline interactive applications that have been developed to date and offer an insight into what’s worked and what hasn’t. They will also outline the technical aspects involved in running screen applications, plus give you the opportunity to try them yourself!

Developers would then be in a position to submit proposals to the BBC / DCAL where they will be evaluated with a view to commissioning a number of applications for use in 2012, funded by DCAL.”
